AEMRI will develop automated systems using multiple robots for the inspection of complex geometry components and structures relating to the green power sector, including wind turbine blades and tidal generator machinery. The work programme builds on work already carried out at TWI Wales and is three-tier:
- development of an automated high-speed scanning robotic scanning system to examine wind turbine blades at manufacture (including advanced ultrasonic testing, radiographic laminography capabilities)
- development of a cost-effective inspection methodology for tidal energy systems
- optimisation of software and hardware for inspection of composite marine structures.
