AEMRI staff Nathan Hartley and Jonathan Roth recently attended the 'BINDT Workshop 2023: NDT of composites through life' held at the RNLI in Poole on 22-23 March.

They were showcasing TWI’s newest inspection development based on COBOT-deployed microwave inspection. This was presented as a specific topic at the workshop and included a live demo on a supporting TWI-hosted stand. Microwave inspection offers non-destructive non-contact inspection and coupled with COBOT deployment offers a very powerful inspection tool for non-metallic and composite parts inspection. The Microwave inspection method used is based on the reflection phase where the microwaves are passed into the material being inspected and the microstructural reflection is acquired and converted into an amplitude signal.

A TWI software package is now commercially available as a result of the in-house development and integration of the Microwave sensor probe and COBOT deployment.
